RULES
Entries close July 30, 2008. Any horse post entered after 7/30/08 will have a $2 per class post entry fee. Horses entered on or before or postmarked 7/30/2008 will pay no post entry fees for classes entered at the show. Post entry fees for the horse will be strictly determined by the postmark. Check with the Post Office to make sure the postmark is correct. Correct payment must accompany the entry form before the entry is considered pre-entered. Any class fees paid for a horse that is not pre-entered will have a post entry fee, even if your own horse was pre-entered. Show tabs are available if a signed open check is left at the office. Classes begin at 8:00 AM each day.

All MSHSA classes will be conducted and judged according to MSHSA and United States Equestrian Federation (USEF) rules (go to www.mshsa.org). Other classes will be judged by the rules in this book. Any unruly or uncontrollable horse may be excused by the judge, if the exhibitor does not ask to be excused. The show will not be responsible for any accidents to persons, horses, equipment or loss of equipment. Presentation of entry blank shall be deemed acceptance of this rule.

No refunds will be made on withdrawals from classes unless a veterinary certificate is submitted for horse or a doctor's certificate for the exhibitor to the show office within 5 days after the show. There will be no switching of classes for horses or riders. No substitution of horses or riders in a class. Any switching or substitution is considered a scratch. Stall fees, high point award fees and office charges are non-refundable.

Only one horse may be listed per entry form. The show charge applies to each horse. Two riders may be listed on the form. You are responsible for correctly completing the entry form and subsequent entries so results can be correctly counted. The entry form and MSHSA application may be printed from our web site. Classes entered after submission of the entry form, must be listed on a supplemental form. Extra forms will be available at the office. Please pay fees before the last class. A parent or guardian must sign the entry form for any rider under 18. All entry forms must be signed. Stalls/tack rooms are $20.00 each per night. Barn stalls are $30.00 per night. If you want to be stalled near another exhibitor, send your entry in early and note who you want to be stalled next to. Stalls cannot be reserved by telephone. Stalls will not be switched around. The stalls are rented for Friday and Saturday nights. Bedding provided is sawdust. Extra bedding is $7 per bag. Stalls are assigned. Any horse in a stall not assigned to that horse will forfeit entry fees, monies or prizes won and eliminated from further competition.

Cars and trailers must park in the area designated. Parking overnight is free but if you hook to electricity it is $10 per night. All dogs must be confined or on a leash. No charge for leaving your trailer in the lot.

Smoking is permitted on the grounds only in the designated smoking area or your own vehicle. DO NOT throw any cigarette butts on the ground. There are no bleachers so please bring your own chairs. Areas not open to exhibitors are marked with an X on the grounds map. Please respect these boundaries.

Western Control is a class for horses beginning reining maneuvers. Senior horses, junior horses, or green horses who have been ridden in shanked bits previously may be ridden 2-handed in a non-shanked snaffle bit or bosal. If a shank bit is used, it must be ridden one handed. The maiden walk/trot reining will be judged as an MSHSA class.

Western Horsemanship is based on a pattern. Horsemanship only to count. Horse to be under control at all times. Horses out of control will be penalized. Rider will be allowed to ride only one horse and a horse may be ridden by only one rider. If a shanked bit is used, the horse must be ridden one handed. A senior horse must be ridden with a shanked bit, unless it is green. A junior or green horse may be ridden two handed in a snaffle bit or bosal.

First places at any MSHSA, USEF, or Breed association approved show prior to the current competition year determine the status of horse or rider. A maiden horse/rider has not won a 1st place. A novice rider has not won 3 1st places. A limit horse/rider has not won 6 1st places. A green horse is one who has never shown at an approved show as listed above.

The friend and friend class is one horse with two riders, only one entry fee. The horse will be ridden at all the gaits one way of the ring, then the class will line up and change riders (you may bring in a mounting block). The horse will be ridden the other direction of the ring with a new rider. The horse that performs best for both riders is the winner. No change of tack is allowed but stirrups may be adjusted.

A junior horse is 5 years and under. A senior horse is 6 years and older. Any horse is considered one year old on 1/1 following the actual date of foaling. An exhibitor's age for the competition year is the age as of 12/1, preceding the competition. An individual born on 12/1 shall assume the greater age on 12/1.

There is no cross entry to canter classes for the 10 & Under Classes. 10 & Under classes may be ridden two handed with a snaffle bit or a shanked bit, regardless of the age or status of the horse, but must use a bit appropriate to the age/status of the horse or ride one-handed in a shank bit in other walk/trot classes.

Chaps are required in all western equitation classes that require a canter. Chaps are not required in walk/trot western classes.

There will be a $25 charge for a check returned for any reason. If the check is not made good within seven days after the show, it will be turned over to the county attorney for prosecution.
